Title: The Baby Chronicles

Author: Judy Baer

Publisher: Steeple Hill Cafe

Genre: Inspirational/Chick-lit

Whitney is now happily married to her doctor husband, Chase Andrews, and they are still enjoying the honeymoon status. The cats have adjusted to having an extra person in the house, and life is going on as normal.

Whitney’s best friend, Kim, wants to have a second child, but her husband Kurt is against it since Kim is recovering from breast cancer. They change their mind and plan to adopt from China. Then Whitney’s other friend, Mitzi, discovers she’s pregnant. Their boss, Harry, is at the end of his rope when he discovers that Whitney is expecting as well. And Bryan, the other man in the office discovers that he is experiencing the pregnancies along with his female co-workers.

The Baby Chronicles is the sequel to The Whitney Chronicles. I enjoyed reconnecting with the characters I grew to love in The Whitney Chronicles and seeing how their lives have progressed and changed since Whitney’s marriage. I felt Kim and Mitzi as they struggled through the adoption paperwork and the trying to get pregnant woes, and was happy for Whitney when she got pregnant easily.

Some of the accounts of pregnancy were too funny (and too true) and I laughed out loud and read scenes to anyone around who would listen. Mitzy is a “Barbie” type female, and she went through the pregnancy in “Barbie” fashion, making the book truly hilarious.

My only complaint is that the book ended. There is one instance in the copy I read where some of the characters’ names were wrong, but that might be fixed in the final version of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Baby Chronicles and hope to have another book in the series so I can see how the trio adjusts to motherhood. Don’t miss The Baby Chronicles. It is a must read. Discussion questions and a preview of Sleeping Beauty (coming out in October 2007) are included at the end of the book. $6.99. 384 pages.
