Best Friend, Worst Enemy Genre: Inspirational/Juvenile/Fiction Holly Meredith faints halfway through the 7th grade musical. The first face she sees as she begins to wake up is Jared Wilkins, the new boy. According to the Loyalty Papers that she and her best friend Andie Martinez wrote, if they both like the same boy, one of them has to back off. Now, both girls have fallen for Jared Wilkins and neither wants to back off. Holly's best friend suddenly becomes her worst enemy. Plus, Holly wants to try out for the youth choir and it looks like she won't be able to try out because she isn't yet thirteen. Holly lives with her mom and sister in Colorado. Her dad, who disappeared four years ago when he and Holly's mom divorced, lives in California. He always sends gifts for Christmas and birthdays, but doesn't write or phone. Now, it looks like Holly might have a chance to visit Daddy out in California during Spring break. Only that's the same time as the youth choir tour. Beverly Lewis, who has written seventy books for children, teens or adults, has created another exciting series in Holly's Heart . Her characters are so real, they become the reader's best friends. The cover illustration is done by Paul Casale. The cover design is by Cheryl Neisen. On the cover of Best Friend, Worst Enemy, Paul Casale provides a beautiful portrayal of fair haired Holly, her dark haired best friend Andie and the new boy Jared. Beverly Lewis weaves the theme of friendships and forgiveness through Best Friend, Worst Enemy. At the same time she keeps the reader reading from the first paragraph through to the end. Young readers will be watching for Holly's Heart #2. |
