Title: Beyond Groundhogs and Gobblers Author: Cyndy Salzmann Publisher: Christian Publications, Inc. ISBN: 0-87509-992-0 Genre: Inspirational/Nonfiction/Holidays
Beyond Groundhogs and Gobblers is a month-by-month guide on how to celebrate the true meaning of holidays. It lists all the major holidays—and even some not-so-major ones and explains the true meaning behind the holiday. For instance, did you know that St. Patrick’s Day is much more than a holiday for leprechauns and pots of gold? It’s even more than discovering how much green beer a person can drink. St. Patrick’s Day is about a missionary who was once a prisoner of the Irish, but later returned to Ireland to tell the Druids about Christ! Beyond Groundhogs and Gobblers explains all that and more.
This book is a valuable resource for homeschoolers and others interested in the true meaning behind the holidays we celebrate. It even explains reasons why we should celebrate—instead of running off and hiding from all the commercialism we see around the major holidays like Christmas.
I recommend Beyond Groundhogs and Gobblers for the keeper shelf. It is a fantastic book full of information that will be picked up time and again. There are also some great recipes included for each holiday which will be great to try. Some of them sound excellent. | |
