Joel Carpenter married the woman he’s loved since the moment he met her, and for awhile life is good. Kari is working as a nursing assistant until she decides to become an RN. So she goes back to school. Joel went to barber school, but now works as a hair stylist.
When Kari gets pregnant, neither she nor Joel is overly excited. The timing is all wrong. Still, they decide to keep the baby. When Kari is about five months pregnant, Joel makes a bad decision that will change the course of the rest of his life.
A Bigger Life is a well-written story that is very compelling. Even though the book isn’t action packed, or even exciting, this is a saga that will draw the reader in and keep the pages turning.
Joel is a realistic character, charming and sweet, a real southern gentleman. Kari is bossy and opinionated, yet she’s also real. Sometimes I got fed up with Joel being so nice as it made him look wimpy sometimes.
The faith message is expertly woven in. In fact, it is several chapters before something Christian related is even mentioned as neither Joel nor Kari were Christian at the beginning of the story. I highly recommend A Bigger Life. It will make you think and will stay with you long after you close the book. $12.99. 336 pages. |
