At her friends’ urging, elementary teacher, Gwen Sandler, takes a sabbatical from her teaching position in Tumbleweed, Arizona, to work at Bliss Village Ski Resort in northern California. They promise her a job as cook, working for Gwen’s friend, Candace’s brother, Mitch Windsor. So Gwen packs up her belongings and her pet iguana and heads to California.
When she arrives, she discovers that Mitch’s grandmother has taken the position of cook. Mitch is willing to keep his end of the bargain and offers Gwen a job as coffee house manager at the top of the mountain. Only one problem. Gwen has a devastating fear of heights, and the first trip up leaves her sick in Mitch’s arms.
Still, Gwen is willing to try the job, in spite of the circumstances. But someone doesn’t want her there. Gwen’s pet iguana is constantly released from its habitat, and scaring the resort guests. Every idea Gwen comes up with to increase business is stolen by Mitch’s rival business. And customers are complaining that Gwen makes a bad cup of coffee. Will Mitch release Gwen and tell her to go home to Tumbleweed? Or will he be willing to help her look for who is sabotaging this whole venture?
Blissfully Yours is the second book in Ms. Walker’s Bliss Village series, but it easily stands alone. Gwen is a unique heroine, with an iguana for a pet instead of a cat or dog. She falls for Mitch instantly, but he seems to be caught up by a former love interest. I thought Gwen forgave him a bit too quickly for all his mistakes, but otherwise, Blissfully Yours is an adorable book.
The faith message is expertly woven in, and the characters are three-dimensional. Readers will laugh out loud several times during the book. I truly loved Blissfully Yours and closed the book with a blissful sigh. Pick up Blissfully Yours wherever Love Inspired books are sold. You won’t be disappointed.
