Title: Dawn of A Thousand Nights Author: Tricia Goyer Publisher: Moody Publishers ISBN 0-8024-0855-9 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Fiction
Libby Conners has the perfect life. She’s living in Hawaii teaching men how to pilot planes. She’s finding less stereotyping from the men in Hawaii than there were in the 48. When Libby meets Dan Lukens, he goes out of his way to get to know her, even if it means signing up for flight lessons—when he’s already a pilot.
Libby’s and Dan’s romance is short-lived. Less than two months after they meet, Dan is called away to serve in the Philippines and the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, leaving Libby lonely and grounded.
The war isn’t over as soon as Dan would hope. When his airstip is bombed in the Philippines, he and his buddies find themselves scrounging for food in the jungle. But then, he is taken captive by the Japanese. Will he and Libby ever see each other again? And if they do, will he be the same man she fell in love with?
All I can say is “Oh, wow.” Dawn of A Thousand Nights moved me to tears. I never even considered some aspects of World War II and I learned so much history that I didn’t know. My father was stationed in the Philippines during World War II and I can vouch that much of what he told me about his experiences were verified by what Ms. Groyer wrote in the book.
I highly recommend Dawn of A Thousand Nights as a must read. I’m a homeschool mom and I’m requiring my teenage boys to read this story as part of there history. This book is going on my keeper shelf. Dawn of A Thousand Nights is not to be missed. $12.99. 505 pages. |
