Title: Desperate Pastor’s Wives Authors: Ginger Kolbaba & Christy Scannell Publisher: Howard Books ISBN: 1-58229-632-4 Genre: Inspirational/Women/Fiction
Desperate Pastor’s Wives is the story of four women from different denominations who meet secretly, forty miles from their hometown, for a monthly lunch. They each have a serious problem they can’t tell the people in their churches. After all, pastor’s wives are expected to be pious, conservative, self-sacrificing, willing to take all the jobs no one else will do, and be invisible. Above all, they re expected to smile, whether they feel like it or not. And pastor’s wives aren’t allowed to have problems.
These four don’t have close friends in their own churches, because pastor’s wives can’t play favorites. So the monthly luncheons are a chance to talk to someone who will listen and understand.
Jennifer is desperate to have a baby. Felicia thinks another woman is after her husband. Lisa’s husband is married to his church, with no time for her. and Mimi is trying to prove her worth by being everything to everyone.
Ginger Kalbaba and Christy Scannell have blended humor and faith into an engaging story of four women trying to support their husbands without losing their own sense of identity. They use some very unorthodox methods to solve their problems, proving that God does in deed move in mysterious ways. I really enjoyed this book. The next time you go to church, hug your pastor’s wife and tell her you appreciate her. If she doesn’t keel over from shock, she’ll thank you. |
