Title: Precious Things Author: Andrea Boeshaar Publisher: Barbour Publishing ISBN: 1-59310-065-5 Genre: Inspirational/Women’s Fiction
Blythe Severson gave up her daughter for adoption over thirty years ago. It broke her heart to do so, but the boyfriend she’d planned on marrying died, and she didn’t see how she could raise a baby on her own—especially when her parents threatened to throw her out on the street if she kept the baby.
After giving the baby up, Blythe fell into a deep depression, and her parents sent her to live with her rich uncle in Singapore. Three years later, her uncle helps Blythe go into business, but he has a clause included that if Blythe does anything he doesn’t approve of, the business is his. Blythe realizes that if he ever finds out about her love-child, she’ll end up out on the streets, homeless and penniless.
Then a faded photograph appears in the mail and it dredges up all sorts of painful memories. Old friends and old heartaches start appearing in Blythe’s present. Including the daughter she’d never forgotten. Is Blythe willing to risk everything to get to know the daughter she gave away?
Precious Things builds on the previous two stories, Broken Things and Hidden Things. I recommend reading the first two books in the story first so you won’t be hopelessly lost by what happens in book three of the Faded Photographs Series. You will revisit characters previously introduced in the books and pick up where their stories left off.
The characters are realistically developed and the reader will come to care deeply for them throughout this series, watching them grow and develop from who they are when they are introduced into who they are when the series ends. It is like revisiting old friends.
I was a bit disappointed by Kylie, Blythe’s daughter, in Precious Things, but otherwise the story is excellent. Readers of the previous two books will thoroughly enjoy Precious Things. Pick it up today for a good read.
