Title: The Redemption Author: M.L. Tyndall Publisher: Barbour Publishing ISBN: 1-59789-359-5 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Fiction
Hoping to find the father she's never known, Lady Charlisse Bristol flees London and the abusive uncle who raised her. Charlisse doesn't trust men or God because of the way her uncle, a bishop, cruelly mistreated her. She soon finds herself shipwrecked alone for weeks on a deserted island, but when she is near death, a crew of vile pirates rescues her. Worst among them is the exasperating, but enigmatic, Captain Edmund Merrick.
A beautiful woman was the last thing Merrick expected to find on the secluded island where he stopped for ship repairs. Now, he must protect the young maiden from his lecherous crew while at the same time controlling his own attraction to her. He's quickly captivated by the tenacious, yet exasperating woman. Once, he would have claimed her for himself, but he gave his heart to God and now lives by a different standard.
Just when he begins to think there may be hope for a future for the two of them, Merrick learns that Charlisse's father, the man she seeks, is his worst enemy, the feared pirate Edward the Terror—a man Merrick is determined to see in chains. Charlisse is unwavering in trying to find her father, because she's sure he will love her. But Merrick knows Edward loves no one and will only bring her grief.
Even though she's attracted to the handsome, teasing man, Charlisse struggles to trust Merrick. For some reason, he doesn't want her to find her father, but she knows if she does, she'll finally be able to gain the love she's always longed for.
When treachery strikes, will Charlisse and Merrick's blossoming love be strong enough to survive the forces that threatened to tear them apart? Will Charlisse cling to her newfound faith in God when things are their darkest and it seems she may lose the only man she's ever loved?
The Redemption is an awesome book! It's truly difficult to believe this is a debut novel, because M. L. Tyndall pulls you right into the story with a fast-paced plot that never slows. I was curious to see how she could tell a story of barbaric pirates with a faith message, but I wasn't disappointed.
The Redemption is the story of a determined young woman desperately searching for the love of a father, who will go to no ends to achieve her goal. This drive causes Charlisse to put her purity and her very life in danger. She is stubborn and tenacious to the point of reckless, but readers will admire her for it. Merrick is a fabulous hero. He's dashing and daunting, yet a man of honor who wrestles with his faults. We see a Christian man struggling to maintain his beliefs and morals in a world that ridicules him for those convictions. Toss in some truly nasty villains as well as a vile crew of pirates and you have some delicious conflict and heart-pounding adventure.
The Redemption is not just the name of Captain Merrick's ship, but also the theme of the story. There is a deeply woven faith message that is inspiring and shows the supernatural power of a loving God. What Charlisse learns is that it's not her earthly father's love she’s craving but her heavenly Father's. For a swashbuckling adventure that will stay with you for a long time, try The Redemption, book one in Legacy of the King's Pirates series. ($9.97, 317 pgs) |
