Title: The Red Glove Collection Author: Karen Kingsbury Publisher: Warner Faith ISBN: 0-446-57962-9 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Fiction
Christmas miracles happen to those who believe. With this premise in mind, Karen Kingsbury has penned a truly spectacular Christmas series.
Gideon’s Gift—Earl is a homeless man, torn from a normal life by circumstances out of his control. Every day he goes to the mission for a hot meal. Then one day, his tarp and his most valuable possession is stolen from him. Earl is left hurting and bitter, until he meets an angel named Gideon, a little girl, dying from leukemia.
Maggie’s Miracle—Maggie no longer believes in love. Her husband never loved her the way she thought he should, but he poured all his love into their young son, Jordan. When Maggie’s husband dies from a massive heart attack, Jordan is hurting. Maggie and her mother are at a loss how to handle the young boy, until they discover a letter Jordan has written to God. Will God answer Jordan’s prayer?
Sarah’s Song—Sarah was prepared to give up everything for her singing career. She had to get away from the small town in South Carolina where she grew up. After all, she’d stayed longer than she’d planned because she fell in love with her friend’s brother, Sam. But when Sam finally gets around to proposing, Sarah can’t say yes. Nashville is everything Sarah expects and more. Will she succeed as a musician or will she return home for love? And what is so important about the twelve envelopes she opens every Christmas?
Hannah’s Hope—Hannah is a fifteen year old girl, raised by her grandmother. Her parents are important people and must travel a lot with their government jobs. When Hannah starts trying to get her parents to come home for Christmas, she learns that her dad isn’t her real dad. Her real father is serving overseas. Will Hannah be able to discover his true identity?
I read each of these four stories as they were originally published, and I thoroughly enjoyed them then, and I enjoyed rereading each of them in this handy four-in-one collection. The stories are all tied together by a pair of red gloves, and the phrase “Christmas miracles happen to those who believe.”
The characters are realistically developed, the faith message is expertly woven, and the stories are real. These are not easily forgotten tales. Ms. Kingsbury has an ability to take the reader deep into the emotions of the story, and keep them there. Read The Red Gloves Collection with a box of tissue close by. You will need it. $21.99 hardcover. 620 pages. |
