Title: Rediscovering Daily Graces

Author: Robert Elmer

Publisher: NavPress

ISBN: 1-57683-853-6

Genre: Nonfiction/Christian Living

The birth-to-death faith has been defined for centures through a framework called the seven sacraments: baptism, confirmation, communion, reconciliation, prayer for the sick, marriage, and vocation. These are considered God’s everyday gifts of grace for His people—things to help us through life.

Robert Elmer has gathered together a collection of writings from respected writers and church leaders such as: Charles Spurgeon, Andrew Murray, Martin Luther, and D.L. Moody, as well as others, and updated their text into modern day language. The goal is to help draw us deeper into our relationship with God in our everyday relationships, work, and worship.

Elmer has divided the book up into three different parts

. Grace to Begin—which includes baptism, confirmation, and communion

. Grace to Heal—which includes reconciliation and prayer for the sick and hurting

. Grace to Live—which includes marriage, vocation, and Christian service

At the end of each section is a series of questions designed to help you in your personal study or as you study as a group. I would have liked to have seen lines available for writing your thoughts after each question, but a reader/student could always keep a separate journal handy for writing their thoughts and observations.

This is the first nonfiction I’ve read by Robert Elmer. He’s best known for his engaging children’s chapter books and more recently a series of beautifully written contemporary fiction books. However, this book is easily read and friendly in it’s approach and even the beginner should be able to read it and understand it’s concepts. If you are interested in learning more about the basics in Christianity then you will definitely want to pick up your copy of Rediscovering Daily Graces. $12.99. 203 pages.
