Title: Retribution Author: Randall Ingermanson Publisher: Zondervan ISBN: 0-310-24707-1 Genre: Inspirational/Sci-Fi/Biblical Fiction
Transported through a wormhole from the future, Rivka Myers and her husband, fellow time-traveler Ari Kazan, now live in turbulent Jerusalem. Rivka finds her knowledge of history a heavy responsibility in this dangerous time, as she quickly becomes known as a scary witch woman on the streets. The Queen recognizes her as a seer and calls her in for fortune telling quite often.
Knowing the history of the country as she does, Rivka feels an urgency to flee before things get out of control and she and her family is killed. But before she can, Ari’s expertise is needed to help Jewish zealots develop weapons to fight the Romans. Ari finds himself having to make a difficult decision. Will he join the men of violence in their doomed cause, or leave the people defenseless against the legions of Rome?
I wasn’t sure I’d like Retribution at first. But it didn’t take long for Randy Ingermanson’s expert characterization and compelling word choices to make me realize that this book was a page turner. I devoured the book in one day and wished it would have lasted longer.
Retribution is set during a violent time in history and probably isn’t for the squeamish as there is a lot of murder and mayhem contained in the pages. Never-the-less, Retribution will give the reader an insider’s look at the time Jesus was born into and lived in for thirty-three years.
Retribution is a book for the keeper shelf and would make a great gift for Christmas. Even though it is book three in the City of God Series, readers don’t need to read the first two books to be able to enjoy Retribution. However, the earlier books would probably give you some idea how Rivka and Ari found themselves in historical times and unable to get back home. Pick up Retribution today for an exciting read. | |
