Six years ago, Admiral John Wells was the sole survivor of a manned mission to Mars. He was joyfully reunited with his wife, Amy, and their four children, but tragically torn apart a short time later when Amy and the children die a fiery death. With nothing left on Earth to live for, John Wells agrees to lead a group of Astronauts to Mars, hoping to rediscover the proof they needed that was tragically destroyed in a space accident.

Within a short time there, John and his crew are shocked to discover a small colony on Mars that NASA has no idea about. This colony is part of a “Father Race religion,” and have all the necessities plus a few luxuries. Then John discovers that his wife, Amy, and his children didn’t die after all, but instead are being held in Father Raines compound in Slovenia.

Father Raines has invented 321 clones, part of Raines’ master plan for the human race. John and his crew must somehow figure out a way to stop this, as Father Raines has things set in place to introduce a new race in a matter of days. .  .

The Return is the third and final book in the Mars Hill Classified series. I have read some of the books, but not all of them, and I am not a huge fan of intricate science fiction books, so I am admitting to be thoroughly confused by this book. Even the description I wrote above confuses me.

That said, Mr. Boyd seems to be a very qualified man to write this series. He’s a NASA Astronaut finalist, an inventor, a Navy pilot, etc. There seem to be two several plots moving along in The Return, that don’t seem to intersect at any point (although I might have missed something.)

The characters seem to be realistic enough. John is brave and courageous and thinks quick on his feet, skills needed to be an astronaut. Amy believes that she will be rescued and even finds innovative ways to communicate with the outside world.  If you like Science Fiction, then you won’t want to miss The Return.

Questions are included at the end of the book, as well as a sample chapter of Mr. Boyd’s next book Hoax. $14.99. 496 pages.
