Sadie Pickett is recovering from a miscarriage, has two teenagers who don’t need her anymore, and is married to a pharmacist--who has more time for the golf course than he does his wife. She also is the designated primary caregiver for her father, Moonie—who considers himself King Solomon. Or would it be King Lear? And as the president of the Council of Christian Women, it would seem she has enough on her plate.
The last thing Sadie needs is for the mayor of Wileyville, Kentucky, to show up on her doorstep and offer her the job of graveyard superintendent. Sadie has absolutely no intention of accepting this offer. But everyone else in town seems to think it’s just what she needs. So, reluctantly, Sadie accepts the title of “’Fraidy Sadie the Cemetery Lady” to the other roles she must fill. Is working among the “living impaired” just what Sadie needs to pull her out of the slump she’s in? Or will it cause her to crumble under the load?
Sadie-In-Waiting is a delicious story full of sarcasm and great one-liners. While it started out a bit slow, the action did quickly pick up as Sadie finds herself involved in some hilarious situations. I quickly grew to care for Sadie and her simply adorable father.
Readers will not be disappointed by this new offering from Steeple Hill Café. Sadie-In-Waiting is a great mom lit. Those with teenagers and aging parents will quickly relate to Sadie and her problems.
