Jacetta Winters fell in love with Maxie Jackson when she was fresh out of college and had landed her first job. Although warned, Jaci refused to believe that Maxie was married, and when she ended up pregnant with his child, Maxie was hateful, telling her that he is married and the baby is her problem.
When Jaci is turned away by her family and the church, she learns that God is the only one that she can really rely on. Now, Jaci has picked up the pieces and moved on. She has a wonderful daughter and grandchildren and a man is in her life. A man she loves. But does she trust him enough to actually marry him?
Seasons is the first book I’ve read by Bonnie Hopkins, and I can’t say I was very impressed with it. The story is told in the narrator’s point of view, meaning that even as you are reading the story you are seeing the future, something characters can’t see. You are also privy to everyone’s thoughts. As a result, it made it difficult to relate to Jaci. I never did win sympathy for her though I did hope thinks would work out and she would learn to trust again.
The faith message is a true part of Seasons and is not subtle. I like the boldness of the message, and that is a positive for this book. Seasons is a true testimony to God’s presence and unchanging love for us in the midst of life’s sometimes difficult circumstances. Hardcover, $21.95. 400 pages. |
