When Lilly Jacobs loses her job and her boyfriend within hours of each other, she calls her two best friends, Morgan and Poppy, and requests a spa weekend. For years, the three women have planned their futures, dreamed of finding the perfect Christian husband, and soothed their disappointments away at the little hole-in-the-wall spa. Now Lilly is at a crossroads and must decide which way to go.

Her passion is fashion. But Lilly's nana, who raised her and even sold her own home to finance Lilly's Stanford MBA degree, is bent on seeing her granddaughter utilizing her finance degree. Now that Lilly is free from her pressure job with designer Sara Lang, she sees this as her last chance to become a designer in her own right—if only she had the start-up money.

Lilly blames all her woes on her frizzy, uncontrollable hair that would make a hippie jealous. If only she had straight, thick locks like Morgan. Even men seemed scared off by her out-of-this-world hair. When she suddenly has three men vying for her attentions, Lilly wonders what gives. Is it possible one of these men could be husband material? Will Lilly live her dream of becoming a highly-sought-after fashion designer? Or will she make her nana happy and drudge the rest of her life away in the boring world of finance?

She’s All That is cute and clever. However, in the beginning, this tomboy mother of four boys from the Midwest had trouble getting into the flow of the story, and many of the fashion terms and California-isms were over my head, but I kept reading and soon got captured up in Lilly's wacky world. The story really took off for me when the three men entered the scene, making Lilly's confusing life even more complicated and adding the hint of romance.

She’s All That is a testimony of how three friends with totally opposite lifestyles and viewpoints can become kindred spirits and survive life with the support of each other. Lilly is inspiring because, in spite everything being stacked against her, she never gives up on her dream. She pursues it, even when she has doubts bigger than her hair. Fans of chick-lit and the fashion world are sure to love Kristin Billerbeck's newest book. (256 pages, $13.99)
