Orianon Hightower, a young teen on the distant planet Corista, encounters a strange new music teacher, Jesmet, and finds herself mesmorized by his teachings. Soon, this one man's words and miraculous actions, shake the culture of this bright, yet half-lit planet to its core.

Orianon is ordered by her father, an elder, to spy on Jesmet, recording everything she sees and hears in her perfect memory. Forced to become a reluctant Judas to the teacher she has come to care about, Orianon soon learns that her father's intentions are less than honest.

When Jesmet is accused of being a faithbreaker, he is banished to the eternally dark, icy side of Corista - the Shadowside. According to common knowledge, Shadowside is inhabited only by fierce animals.

Orianon and her friend Margus sneak past the government barrier into Shadowside to find Jesmet, only to discover that not everything is as it is. Now faced with the truth, Orianon must make a hard decision - follow Jesmet's teachings of love, or preserve her own life.

Robert Elmer has crafted yet another masterpiece, this time asking the question: "What if Jesus came to another planet?" Not only do Orianon's encounters with this mysterious Jesmet change her life, but it is sure to bring about change in our own spiritual lives.

The moment I picked up Trion Rising, I found myself sucked into this new world, and I couldn't put the novel down! I wasn't even halfway though the first chapter, and I already felt that I had known Corista all my life. Elmer has woven a surprisingly realistic world of three suns, two-hour artificial nights, memory harvesting, and a culture wrapped up in their own knowledge, unaware of their own ignorance.

Entertainment aside, the sheer power of this story completely changed my perspective on Christ's life, and ultimately his sacrifice. While not a retelling in itself, Trion Rising beautifully captures the passion of the Messiah through the eyes of a reluctant follower.
