About Eloise Schroder, Webmaster of The Christian Fiction Site:
Ellie has loved Christian fiction for many years, after being introduced to it back in 1990. She developed "The Christian
Fiction Site" back in 1998 under the former title "Ellie's World of Christian Fiction" after seeing the need for an online
resource site for readers to become more familiar with Christian fiction titles on the market. Since then, she has maintained
the site in her own spare time, as well as juggling a full-time job with GPH Wholesale, a distributor of Christian literature, and being
part of the worship team in her local church. Ellie lives in Palmerston North, New Zealand, with Dion, her husband of
more than 10 years.

Author Profile Interview
1. Tell us a little about yourself.
I come from a long line of storytellers, but (as my husband, Jerry, says) I’ve actually had the nerve—or the audacity—to write things down. I love being with my family and friends, feeding them, listening to them, and enjoying their company. And I always warn them if one of their stories appears in my books. They humor me.
As far as "Life" details, I’m proud to say, "I’m a Navy Brat." I learned to read on the island of Guam in a tiny cinder block and wood classroom, with bare concrete floors, wood slats for windows, and no electricity. It was a Catholic school, just starting out. My brothers and I still laugh, reminiscing about the two years we spent there.
2. How did you become a novelist, and did you always want to write?
(I’m laughing at myself over this one.) Somehow I grew up with the notion that WRITERS . . . weren’t ordinary people. It never occurred to me that I had all the symptoms of becoming a writer—a passion for all kinds of books, and reading anything and everything in print. However, when I was twenty-five, my sister-in-law became an editor. She showed me a manuscript that she was working on. I remember staring at it, thinking, "I can do this!" A very naïve thought. The reality is, writing takes years of practice and usually payment is minimal or zero. Most writers have "day" jobs, but we persist because we love the craft.
3. What do you think is significant about Christian fiction?
Christian fiction encompasses our whole beings, and acknowledges the soul. Secular fiction usually rests with earth and flesh, rarely pushing the boundaries beyond. I love being able to write about the spiritual—it’s a privilege.
4. How do you hope your readers react to the stories you write?
Two thoughts. First, I pray my work makes them dig deep into the Word, and to realize the boundlessness of the Lord’s love for us. I also want my readers to feel as if they’ve lived in my stories and experienced the situations for themselves.
5. What responses to your novels have affected you the most and why?
Most painful: "I really related to Annah, because I lived through a situation like hers." I’ve heard this a number of times, and I’ve read it in emails from my website. It always wrings my heart, and I pray for the readers who tell me this. I don’t want anyone to have to live through a situation like Annah’s in The Heavens Before. Except for the love of the Lord, how could you survive?
6. How has being a novelist impacted your relationship with Christ?
It’s made me study, think, and learn to question everything. I’m stronger in my faith—and find that I’m turning more and more to the Lord.
7. Other than writing great novels, what other goals do you have for your life?
That’s easy! Jerry and I want to see our sons grown and thriving, body and soul, and growing in their faith. We also want to spoil grandchildren in ten years, and have two daughters-in-law to visit with and to enjoy. I’m already praying for my future daughters-in-law. And, I want to be married for about sixty more years to Jerry.
8. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Read. Oh, and cook, tat (silk lacemaking) and scrub during those rare days when I’m in a cleaning mood. But writing takes up most of my spare time.
9. What can you tell us about your latest novels?
A Crown in the Stars was published in April, and the Genesis Trilogy is being translated into Dutch—which delighted me. I’m currently working on a New Testament story—a very odd twist from Matthew, but completely biblical, of course.
10. What stories can your fans expect from you in the days ahead?
I pray they can expect more historical fiction in different eras, but all reflecting stories of faith. It’s a real joy to write for my readers!
