Today: Interview With Dragonspell Author, Donita K. Paul

Donita K. Paul is the author of eight books, although Dragonspell is her first fantasy novel. She has a wonderful imagination, and a flair for writing enjoyable books. Please welcome the author of Dragonspell, Donita K. Paul!

Jason: Hello. How are you are doing?

Ms. Paul: I am pretty good. I went to a convention in Georgia and came back congested. I really had a good time though, but saw lots of people lost in a worldly quagmire. Gotta question?

Jason: Tons. Well, not quite.

Ms. Paul: Okay, fire away

Jason: What inspired you to write Dragonspell?

Ms. Paul: I wish I could say something profound, but I was just playing around with a new idea. The idea kind of blossomed on its own. And I am very grateful it did!

Jason: Who was the hardest character to create?

Ms. Paul: None of them were hard to create, but it is always a challenge to keep that many characters true to themselves

Jason: Who was the funniest character to create?

Ms. Paul: I love Dar. He is such an involved character with so much going for him

Jason: How did you come up with the minor dragons? i.e. - talents, personalities, etc.

Ms. Paul: I have a friend who is a decorator. She was telling me how colors indicate personalities and talents and set moods. I found that interesting and started incorporating it

Jason: What was the biggest challenge when writing Dragonspell?

Ms. Paul: Not to go off on rabbit trails. There was so much fun stuff going off in my mind, sometimes I had to put a rein on it

Jason: How long had you been writing before you started Dragonspell?

Ms. Paul: I started writing when I was a kid, probably around 7th grade. Dragonspell is my 8th published work, the first was in 1999.

Jason: How were you able to create such a fun, detailed world from almost nothing?

Ms. Paul: Only God knows that. It just happened

Jason: Is there anything that stimulates your writing? i.e. pictures, music

Ms. Paul: Quiet. I don't do well with background noise. I sometimes run the washer/dryer to block out noise.

Jason: Ahh. Do your work and write in one swoop

Ms. Paul: No, I plod along in the writing. Sometimes I zip through a scene, but basically, writing is hard work

Jason: Thanks for coming by.

Ms. Paul: Thanks for being interested in interviewing me. I had fun.
