Surprised Chicken Lays Golden Egg;

Receives The Unique Egg Medal

    Butterville-Roberta H. Bawk has had her share of surprises, but nothing could compare with Tuesday, when she laid a golden egg at Big-hill Chicken House.

    "I don't understand how this happened," Ms. Squawk told reporters. "The only thing I saw Roberta do different is she tried a few seeds she found in an abandoned gold mine."

     Neighboring hens expressed their shock. "I was so amazed that I fell right out of my nest," said Martha B. Cluck. "No one here has ever laid a golden egg before. I'm not even sure this is proper chicken behavior."

     Norma Bawk, Roberta's sister, doesn't mind at all. "It's just like a fairytale that my own sister would lay such a unique and valuable egg."

   "She really deserves to get a million dollars for this egg" said Mr. Moo F. Cowwing, the owner of the Butterville Museum of Unique and Valuable Eggs, where a picture of the egg is on display.

     Mayor Rose H. Mare gave Ms. Bawk a medal for the egg. She has also ordered all feeding workers to get grain from the abandoned gold mine, in addition to the regular source, and bag the special seed separately. "Once we have this new seed available, all the chickens will be able to lay golden eggs." he told reporters.

    Scientists at the Butterville Egg Laboratory (BEL) are eager to get their hands on this unique egg.

     "Golden eggs may have many uses besides enjoyment," stated Seymour X. Periment,  head scientist for BEL. "Who knows what uses golden eggs could serve. This could be the breakthrough in egg technology we've been looking for!"

     Roberta would not give BEL the egg, saying that they would only make money off of it. "I don't want them to benefit from it alone, without any regard to the potential of the life inside," said Roberta.  "I only plan to give the eggshell to the Butterville Museum of Eggs after my baby has hatched. If the BEL must have something to study, maybe they can study the seeds in the gold mine, and find out how this happened."

     Roberta has been given a quegeer for the golden egg. The egg is expected to hatch sometime in early April.
