Welcome to For the Classroom! Here, teachers can find activities for their students to do together.
Challenge
Imagine that an alien landed in your front yard and asked you about life on Earth. The only thing you have in common with this alien is you speak the same language. What would you tell him? Write at least a paragraph on what life is like for you every day, but write it in a way that the alien can understand.
For The Classroom
Tell your students/classmates the story of the alien landing on Earth, that can only speak your language. Then have them split up into teams and write at least a paragraph regarding life on Earth, in a way the alien can understand. Then have each team stand up in front of the class and read their letter. Also, encourage your students to provide visual aids, and give them extra credit if they do. This builds language and communication skills.
Speaking of aliens, I think a flying saucer just landed in my front yard...
Challenge
Re-write the rules to your favorite game, then play it with a friend. Be sure NOT to change the rules as you go.
For The Classroom
Have your students split up into groups. Write the names of games you have on pieces of paper, then each team will pick out one slip of paper and re-write the rules for that game. After everyone is done re-writing the rules, shuffle up the slips of paper again and have each team pick one of the games, then they will play that game with the new rules.
Challenge
Select your favorite myth or fairy tale and write a sequal to it. Then, come up with a catchy title for it
For The Classroom
Have your students break up into groups of three. Write on slips of paper a differant myth or fairy tale (provide a book telling the story if needed). Have each group pick a slip of paper. Have one student write the beginning, the second write the middle, and the third write the ending. Then, have each group read the entire story in front of the entire class.
