Deceptive Advertising*

You see a lot of advertisements on television and in magazines about some new, incredible product. I must say that these claims usually aren't true! Companies try to make their products sound like the best things. But companies use words and phrases that will catch the would be customer's attention, like "New", "Nutritious", "The Best...", "The Leader In...". The list goes on and on.

Tell me, if these products are so special, why are they like all the other products. Take for example Felines Friend Cat Food. It sounds good. "The best for your kitty cat! Just add water and you have a nutritious snack for your cat." There are those attention grabbing phrases again!

I've tried that cat food though, and tastes like soggy, dried tuna. And guess what was the only ingredient in it? Dried tuna. The only thing it's "The Best" at is making your kitty cat hurl. And that only one of the many products that make themselves out to be something great.

You can't even trust infomercials, where they show you the item working wonderfully. They will often make that product better only for the infomercial. So before you buy any product, follow these helpful tips:

  1. Read the ingredients. If what is on the label looks like it will work, and fits what the advertisement said, then it's probably worth a shot.

  2. Try to get a sample, or try the product out. Also, make sure you can return it for your money back with no extra charge. If none of those qualifications can be fulfilled, don't bother.

  3. Don't buy "off-brands".

  4. And always go with your gut, unless it leads you to buy a product that doesn't fit the above qualifications.

I hope these tips will help you to be a smarter shopper. If you would like to comment on this article, write to me at kidmagine@dancingword.net.

Rover's Makeover or

Marmaduke's Mistake?*

Makeovers are becoming more and more popular every year. And it's no wonder. You can completely change your appearance from mutt to bow wow beautiful. But are makeovers really all they're cracked up to be?

Now-a -days, you can get your fur color changed, your tail or ears shortened, or even remove wrinkles. But there are several things about makeovers few dogs know. For example, there are many complications. The fur dye could cause an allergic reaction, or the surgical wounds could get infected.

Also, many dogs get makeovers because they are hurting emotionally, or have a very low self esteem. I know quite a few dogs who have had "the extreme treatment," and they don't feel any better emotionally afterwards.

So instead of using makeovers to make yourself feel better, try going to a counselor or a close friend, and telling them how you feel. That will help a whole lot more than getting your ears trimmed..

Remember, makeovers will only change your appearance to others. So before having any makeover, ask yourself if you want to change your appearance, or your emotions. And talk it over with your family and friends. That way, you'll be able to decide what is best for you.
