Jackalope Valley Jackalope Named Bronco Riding Champ

Whisker Valley - Durango Jackalope snagged this year's first place trophy in bronco riding, when he stayed on Whirlwind, the country's meanest bronco for a whopping 18 seconds!

"Not only did he win the trophy, he broke the world's record! The longest anyone's ever stayed on a bronco, much less this bronco, is eight seconds. I thought he'd be four seconds on that horse," said Billy "Spastic" Jack, a judge for the rodeo.

In fact, Durango didn't get bucked off at all. He jumped off. "I was getting a headache anyway. I could have stayed on for 20 seconds, you know," Durango commented. "Ten seconds over the record was good. For right now, anyways."

Coming in at second place is B.J. Jackalope, Durango's brother, who was only two seconds short of the old record. "I may not be the world best at this (bronco riding), but I know I'll win the bull riding event on Thursday. Maybe I'm better at that because those buggers don't buck as high as those broncos," he said.

Last, but certainly not least, was Al "Roper" Clementine, who would even be in the top three if anyone else had stayed on the whole eightseconds. "I don't mind, though," he said. "I helped catch those pigs. Maybe I'll get first place in the greased pig catching next year."

On Wednesday, calf roping will be the big event, followed by bull riding on Thursday. Barrel riding will top it all off on Friday. If you're in the Whisker Valley area, I recommend you check it out. If not, I still recommend you check it out! This is one event you will remember for the rest of your life!
