Dancing Word Workshopwith Donita K. Paul June 23, 2006*This chat has been edited for clarity. Hosted by: Anne McDonald Dancing Word Publisher/Editor
Anne McDonald: Okies, here we go. I'll open prayer, go over protocol, then introduce tonight's guest. Lord, thank You so much for loving us; for calling us to write, and for giving us a warped sense of humor. Please be with our guest and each participant tonight and bless those who want to be here, but have to be somewhere else. Guide our conversation tonight and help us to learn how to be better writers. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Protocol reminder: type ? for questions, ! for comments, and ga when you are through. "ga" keeps us from stepping on each others' toes. Please wait to be called on in turn.
Tonight, I'm thrilled to introduce a fantastic fantasy writer. Her books have totally captivated my son...and he's been telling everyone about them...including our neighbor who hates to read.
Donita K. Paul: LOL
Anne McDonald: Please give a warm welcome to Donita K. Paul, author of the Dragonkeeper Chronicles. Donita, welcome.
* AZAnnie leads the applause
Donita K. Paul: Hello, everyone. I just came in from a booksigning. I love booksignings because PEOPLE come and I like people
Anne McDonald: Donita, our neighbor loves the dragons, and is almost finished with DragonKnight.
Donita K. Paul: good. It is funny about the dragons, they either attract people or repel them
Anne McDonald: What have sales been like for the Dragon Keeper Chronicles?
Donita K. Paul: astronomical. The first book that is two years old (DragonSpell) is still selling as well as the second which is one year old (DragonQuest) and DragonKnight came out on Tuesday and sold out many places.
Anne McDonald: (woo hoo!)
Donita K. Paul: DragonKnight went down to 527 or something like that on Amazon.com and 800 something on Barnes and Noble on line…not that I ever look at those numbers…more than twice a day
Anne McDonald: I was speaking to a fantasy writer the other day and she was told by an agent that fantasy does not sell. What do you respond to that? Read the rest of the transcript
